But after the honeymoon phase often comes the reality check: bureaucracy that feels endless, cultural differences that exhaust you, the pressure to perform in a new environment, and that quiet loneliness when you realize you’re far from home.

I’ve been there myself.

When I was younger, I spent six years in the United States studying Business Administration while playing ice hockey on the side. On paper, it looked like a dream. In reality, I loved it, but at the same time, there were many moments where I felt overwhelmed — the constant pressure to prove myself, the cultural misunderstandings, the homesickness, and the exhaustion of always adapting. Looking back, I can clearly see that it was always my emotions — or rather how I dealt with them — that made the biggest difference between just getting through it and actually growing from the experience.
